The American Grand Prix returns this weekend
After a global pandemic caused a cancellation last year, the Grand Prix of the Americas returns to the calendar for PETRONAS Sprint Racing’s Moto3 riders this weekend, specifically for Darryn Binder and John McPhee.
Binder, who was able to enjoy a short break to recover from his peak at FP2 in Misano, is looking forward to returning much stronger in America this weekend. The South African finished in points in the last three editions of the AmericasGP and was in the top ten in 2017. In Sunday’s race, Darryn will try to be back in the race for the podium and move higher than his current seventh place in the championship standings, where he currently has 114 points.
Teammate McPhee is also looking forward to returning to Texas and the challenge that Austin’s track brings. McPhee previously started from the front row of the circuit - in 2018 - and his best result was sixth place in 2015. After he was unlucky in Misano, where a mechanical problem prevented him from advancing, John hopes for better luck this weekend and good body. He goes to the 15th round of the 16th season in the riders' order with 56 points.
AmericasGP will start on Friday at 9:00 local time (22:00 MYT) with Binder and McPhe FP1, Sunday’s 17-lap Moto3 race at 11 o’clock local time (12:00 MYT).
