Spanish Grand Prix - Franco Morbidelli's first victory
Franco Morbidelli finishes third in the Spanish GP and is his first finish in 2021
The PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team brought a very strong ride over the weekend. Franco Morbidelli won his first victory in the 2021 season in Jerez, after finishing 3rd in the Spanish GP. Teammate Valentino Rossi fought to place 17th.
Morbidelli showed a huge amount of strength in the weekend MotoGP race, from the moment the lights went out to the finish flag. The Italian remained in second place, but dropped back to third in the fourth round. Although Franco moved away from the leading riders in the middle of the race and dropped to fourth place for a moment, he fought hard and began to close the gap in the last laps. He won his first podium finish of the season and moved up to eighth place in the World Cup with 33 points. On the other hand, his teammate Rossi did not have the best start and found himself in 20th place after losing three places. Unfortunately, Valentina was bothered by problems with the rear grip, he did not find the pace to get further forward and at the end of 25 laps he remained in 17th position at the finish flag.
Morbidelli and Rossi are currently starting preparations for the fifth round of the season.
