The capital of the same name Oaxaca with the aroma of chocolate is one of the most beautiful Mexican cities, it is very rich in colonial architecture.
The typical houses are built in a classic colonial style with small, neat balconies, and boast bright colors, which are further emphasized by the everlasting blue sky and the roasting sun.
Don’t miss your way through the main square of Zócalo, where the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción stands. The most beautiful of the churches there is definitely Inglesia de Santo Domingo, today you will find the Oaxaca State Museum of Culture.
Monte Albán rises above the surrounding valley near the capital city. At the leveled top of the hill, the center is the main Gran Plaza, lined with temples and pyramids, which will take everyone’s breath away. The most beautiful view of Gran Plaza is from Plataforma Norte.

Oaxaca itself is also a suitable base for trips to the surroundings, which offers dozens of natural attractions. The most notable of these are the fossilized waterfalls of Hierve el Agua. Many mountain panoramas and flowering plants can be enjoyed in the Sierra Norte.
Hierve el Agua waterfalls are actually a rock formation created by water from the springs, very rich in calcium carbonate, which was deposited here and created formations similar to cave stalactites. The water has a bright green color, which gives it a mineral content.
In the Sierra Norte, there are about 400 species of birds, 350 species of butterflies and almost 4000 plant species; the most typical plants are cacti and agave. There are many marked trails in the area. Go to Piedra Largo, a rock formation near Llano Grande, with impressive views of the surroundings.
